Best karaoke songs??

As we say at BoD, "Your wish is our command, we ARE the Bollywood on Demand!" (Unless, of course, your wish is for free tickets :) )

As our karaoke events become more popular, we wanna hear from you. What are your favorite Bollywood tunes to belt out in the shower, or say, hypothetically, at Tandoori Nights bar? What favorite Bollywood song would you sing?

It doesn't matter if you can or can't sing...it's karaoke after all. :)

Leave your comment and let us know!!

We ARE The Bollywood-On-Demand!

I woke up early with sleep induced in my head
Thinking that some sweets lying in my fridge would get me out of the bed

It felt good after I drank some Chai
Made me jump off the bed and off I fly

Now I am at work and in middle of Test deadlines and defects
Wonder if this is how my rest of the life would reflect

But then there's Dance and Bollywood that keeps me sane
And work on Bollywood-on-Demand and its fame

The people that you see on celluloid are now next to you having drinks
I sincerely hope the fun, the coolness and the work on BoD never shrinks

Sometimes event work gets little too much and is weary
But the friends that you work with, the fun, and the celebs make you go Merry

We fight, we argue, we nag , we love , we hate but at the end its all worth it
Your Wish is Our Command and we ARE the Bollywood-on-Demand!!!

Check out Beth Loves Bollywood...

If you want a great Website for Bollywood films, check out Beth Loves Bollywood. B

Beth, like you and me and everyone else who knows what's up, is an avid Bollywood-phile. She offers a perspective that is both charming and clever. I have actually never met nor contacted Beth; I just love her blog.

Check it out!

Results are in!

Thanks to everyone who voted in our poll. It turns out you want to sing AND dance your pants off (although we prefer you keep your pants on for the duration of our party....).

Coolio. Thanks for all your support. I swear we are planning a lot of fun stuff for our favorite D.C. party-goers. Keep reading to find out...

Learn how to get your Bollywood on for our next party--FOR FREE

We at Bollywood on Demand pride ourselves on throwing parties with some of the best music in town. Our packed dance floors are always evidence of that.

But what if you love the music, but aren't quite sure how to Dard-e-Disco? Or you're all, Jhoom Barab--what?? You should just get out there and have a good time, but I understand the feeling. I've been there. And drinking more really is not the answer (Believe me, I've tried).

But I have good news for you! I just got wind of a
Bollywood dance workshop
Saturday, Sept. 13
noon
Flashpoint Studios in Chinatown (916 G Street NW).

And best of all, it's FREE. That's right. FREE. It won't cost you a thing!!

It's being put on by Dhoonya Dance as part of the Arts on Foot festival.

So now you're out of excuses. Go to the workshop and get your Bollywood on. Then when you show up to our next party, dance your [tail] off!

From Hollywood to Bollywood

Happy Friday everyone
Just stumbled across this article that was in The Washington Post two days ago. It's yet another example of how Bollywood--and already booming film industry--is growing even bigger as more and more Hollywood studios are planting their feet in Mumbai.

Twentieth Century Fox announced it is starting a new Asian division called Fox STAR Studios, and it is starting out this new company by making Bollywood films. They eventually want to branch out to other Asian countries, like China, but are starting out in Mumbai.

"We are in discussion for producing not only traditional Bollywood films but also innovating and targeting emerging genres," Vijay Singh, the guy in charge of Fox STAR, said in the Post article.

It's just like Wyclef's song said.

Washington Post called Bally Sagoo "bhangra legend"

Many thanks to the Washington Post's fabulous Going Out Gurus for their fantastic write-up of Bally Sagoo!! You can read the full piece in their NightLife Agenda, in which they refer to him as a "bhangra legend" and say, "It's hard to overestimate the significance of Bally Sagoo to the whole bhangra scene..."

The Going Out Gurus are *the* nightlife source for the D.C. area. I'm serious!! They have a weekly online discussion every Thursday at 1 p.m. if you are new the area and looking for fun party things to do.

There are only a few days left to buy your tickets so do it now!!

A taste of what you're in for...

In case you want to know what your ticket buys you...here you go. It's a clip of his show in Paris, courtesy of YouTube.com, courtesy of the guy or girl who posted it (thanks, yaar!)

See? this show definitely will be "paisa valsoon" :)

Bally Sagoo tickets now on sale!

Buy your tickets now for Bally Sagoo before they sell out. You can get them here.

If you only get to see one deejay in D.C. this year, this is the one that you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS!

I'm sure anyone who is taking the time to read this blog (thank you by the way!) is already familiar with Bally Sagoo's work. But just in case, Bally Sagoo is a British DJ with Indian roots who is considered a pioneer of fusing Western and Desi beats.

Did you love the Bend it Like Beckham soundtrack? What about Monsoon Wedding? You can thank Bally Sagoo for that.

Seriously the guy has his one D.J. school--not kidding!

So don't miss this concert!!

Show 'em how you roll and go VIP! You get to meet and take pictures with Bally Sagoo.

Bollywood karaoke: It was, in fact, the time to disco.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our second Bollywood karaoke night. Everyone had a great time as there was lot of shaking it on the dance floor and singing along to recent Bollywood hits as well as some tried-and-true classics.

Alex and Anubhav were amazing, stellar hosts. Their energy was contagious! Their own rendition of "It's the Time to Disco" was a smash hit too (A friend of mine who is not a Bollywood fan but just a good, supportive buddy emailed to tell me that song is "catchier than an Abba tune" and is now permanently ingrained in her head. I e-mailed her back the mP3).

As you know--or at least know now--we hold our karaoke nights the third Friday of each month, so this month's landed on August 15. Now I know you know what that is--India's 61st Independence Day. So...we had to do a little something. We asked a few trivia questions that tied in Independence Day to Bollywood movies. I asked around and everyone said these questions were tough. For example:
Q. Name three movies starring Aamir Khan that highlight India's Independence day movement. (they had to name all three).
But man, did the audience know their [ahem] stuff! I thought this one was particularly hard, but this winner got it right away--without a hint of hesitation. Or, say, google by her side when reading this blog post. :)

Anyway, good times by all. Thanks to Tandoori Nights for letting us hold it there again, hope you guys had fun too. Oh and of course thanks to Asif who was magnificent at keeping the tunes coming and filling in for any guy parts when necessary.

And thanks everyone who came. We want to make this monthly but we need your support!! So spread the word to your friends. :)

Now it's time to concentrate on Bally Sagoo. Believe me--and I say this not just because I am part of the the team here--you do NOT want to miss this concert. The guy has his own DJ school for goodness sakes! :)
